Having just travelled across the other side of the world to my best friend’s wedding, I realised the value of everything around me. So many things happened to me leading up to and during my trip which made me think that Life is too short!
I had never left my two boys and it was the hardest thing I had ever done, but out of that came the one thing I do not remember having for a LONG time…. real ME TIME.
If the one thing you do in your life is to make sure you take time out to spend time with those you love and care about, but also take time for you. Why you?
Well, I realised that when I arrived in Fiji, after saying goodbye to my boys and hubby and then goodbye to my family, that I was on my own and it my time – it was time for me. I immediately relaxed and for the first time, I took my time – I looked around me and valued everything that I saw.
I took a walk, a long long walk on my own just breathing the beautiful fresh air and although of course I missed my boys, I realised that this time had been given to me for a reason – to make me relax and enjoy being ME. So I did.
A local had cut down coconuts from the tree and offered one to me… It was delicious. I enjoyed the sensation of Bula Time “Fijians love to take things easy and enjoy TIME” – which is what I started to do. How often do we actually do this?
I know, it is not easy to do by any means when we are in our normal routine. I advocate to all business owners in particular, how important it is to make ME time and how to accomplish this. I do it myself but it usually 5 minutes here, 10 minutes there. You should, take a day off a month for you. It is important!
My time just lazing around, enjoying time with precious friends and enjoying a special wedding time with a best friend, old friends and new – again made me value of friendship and having time to enjoy those friendships. And enjoy I did. What an absolutely amazing and beautiful wedding.
Prior to this time, I wondered how or if I could relax during time, knowing that my boys were so far away, but I did because initially I made myself and then as time went on I was just that – RELAXED, without even trying.
And that is what we all should aim to achieve – to relax at some point ourselves without the need to tell ourselves to! The benefits to you as a person are astounding – your body and your mental capacity come together to make yourself feel complete. Having experienced it myself, I can definitely say that this is what I felt. Also, now whenever I feel a little stressed, I remember that time and how I felt and put myself into that space for 5 minutes and instantly become de-stressed and relaxed.
How much do you need to take out ME time? If you are well in yourself and look after yourself, not only will you feel better but you will also be on top of everything you have in your life and/or business to deal with.
The next time you start to feel stressed or overwhelmed, make time for you – it is important. It doesn’t have to be an overseas trip or a luxury day spa experience, it could just mean a walk around the park for 10-15 minutes.
Remember life is too short to not make the most of your time.
